Consider it the first wave. Snow started falling in the metro area mid-morning Thursday, reaching an accumulation of just over an inch by around 5 p.m. at the National Weather Service station at the Albuquerque airport, said meteorologist Clay Anderson. The West Side reported as much as 2 inches.
“The earliest I think the metro area could be impacted by snow (again) would be on Sunday,” Anderson said. “And more so Sunday night and early Monday morning with the next system coming through.”
Weather Service snowfall reports included 5 inches in Tijeras and 5 to 7 inches in the Gallup area by late-morning Thursday, while 3 inches fell in the Farmington area by morning.
The weather did cause some problems in the Albuquerque area, as a crash shut all lanes of southbound Interstate 25 at Bobby Foster Road during the afternoon commute, and ABQ Ride’s Albuquerque Rapid Transit bus service on Central couldn’t continue east, past Louisiana, due to “severe weather,” the state transportation department and city reported.
